A Full Wedding Weekend in Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Jackson Hole has become one of the most sought after wedding destinations in the country, and it is easy to understand why once you spend a weekend here. Ski town charm, direct access to the Tetons, and a growing list of venues that photograph beautifully in any season make it a natural fit for couples who want their wedding to feel like an experience rather than a single day. As a Jackson Hole wedding photographer, I got to cover a full weekend recently that captured everything this area does best, including a curveball from the weather that turned into one of my favorite parts of the whole story.
Friday Night, a Welcome Party at Piste
The weekend kicked off Friday night with a welcome party at Piste in Teton Village. This is exactly the kind of Jackson Hole wedding weekend detail that guests remember long after the wedding itself. A relaxed night out gives everyone a chance to settle in, meet each other, and start the weekend off with good energy before the main event on Saturday.
Saturday, Wedding Day at Caldera House
Saturday brought the wedding itself at Caldera House, right at the base of the Tetons in Teton Village. The plan was to use that direct mountain backdrop for the ceremony and portraits, but the weather had other ideas. Rain moved in that afternoon, and at one point there was lightning in the area, which meant the mountain was off the table for the day. The ceremony shifted indoors, and the day took on a softer, more intimate feel than originally planned.
Weather like this is part of why I always build a flexible plan for wedding day coverage. The moments still came through fully, just in a different setting than we had pictured.
Sunday, a Sunrise Mission for the Mountain Photos
Since Saturday did not give us the mountain shots, I told the couple we needed to go get them anyway. Early Sunday morning, before my flight out, we headed out while it was still dark to catch the Tetons in clear morning light. The sky cleared, the light was soft and golden, and we finally got the full mountain backdrop portraits that the rain and lightning had taken away the day before.
This is one of my favorite parts of being a documentary style photographer working in Jackson Hole. Sometimes the best images do not come from the schedule everyone planned, they come from being willing to adjust and chase the moment down, even if that means a very early start the morning after the wedding and a flight to catch right after.
