A Black Butte Ranch Wedding Weekend

Some weddings are beautiful. Others stay with you long after the last song ends. Marjorie and Wheeler’s Black Butte Ranch wedding was both.
Set against the pines and open meadows of Central Oregon, their weekend brought together the people they love most for a celebration that felt personal from the first toast to the final dance. Here is a look at how it all unfolded.
The Welcome Party
The weekend began with a welcome party at Black Butte Ranch, where friends and family arrived from near and far to settle in, reconnect, and celebrate the couple. It set the tone for everything that followed: relaxed, warm, and full of people who genuinely wanted to be there.
The wedding day
The day began quietly, with Marjorie and Wheeler each surrounded by the people closest to them, sharing coffee, laughter, and a few deep breaths before everything began. At the ceremony, they exchanged vows they had written for each other, the kind of words that quiet a room. Then Wheeler’s mom performed a poem for the couple, a gift only a mother could give and a moment their family will return to for years.
Afterward, we stepped away for portraits among the pines and meadows of the ranch, starting with classic, timeless images before letting things loosen up so they could simply enjoy being newly married. The reception that followed was full of great food, heartfelt toasts, and a dance floor that never emptied. Then came a moment no one saw coming: Wheeler performed a song he had written for Marjorie years earlier, shared for the first time with everyone they love. It was easily one of the most remarkable moments I have photographed at a wedding.
